| Dear Melissa, Thank you so very much for the magnificent job you did on our wedding and groom cakes! We are a somewhat unconventional couple, and no one that we tried could provide the blend of novel and traditional that we were looking for - until we met you! The cakes were scrumptious (wedding: 1 tier yellow cake with chocolate hazelnut filling, 1 tier lemon cake with raspberry mousse filling, 1 tier almond cake with fresh strawberry filling; groom: his favorite yellow cake with mint-chocolate filling), and the guests still won't stop talking about the designs! The Scrat on top of our wedding cake looked adorable! And Steve was happily surprised by the "signed" Georgetown Basketball groom cake. Thank you again for your hard work, for your creativity, and for the delicious cakes. Oh, one more thing -- my wedding planner (who has planned weddings for the past 25 years) said you were the best cake maker she has ever worked with. Thank you, thank you, thank you! | I tasted the Dora Cake for Melissa's daughter's birthday party and the cake was definetely one of the best cakes I have ever tasted : It was red velvet and had the best icing. The cake looked amazing and all the guests talked about the cake for quite sometime after it was served. ~Jessica |

| When searching online for local bakers, I was very impressed with the philosophy on the Sugar 'n' Shindigs site: whatever we wanted for our cake is what Melissa would work to create. That she also provided Day-of-Coordination services was a plus since we were also debating hiring a coordinator. When we met Melissa for the first time we were a little surprised by how much she DIDN'T fit our expectations for a wedding coordinator. And ultimately that was what we liked so much about her. Just like with the cake baking, the coordination services were totally flexible. We came away from the first meeting believing that Melissa would not simply be a baker or coordinator that we hired, but a partner in the creative process. We thought her prices were extremely competitive. She also asked us a lot of excellent practical questions that we had not thought about. We decided pretty quickly that we wanted to hire her. The first cake tasting was a delight and we both felt that the event would be much less stressful for us if she was in charge. Weddings definitely ramp up emotions for the extended family as well as the couple and we could tell that Melissa would be professional and well-grounded. She was extremely helpful and very responsive throughout the planning process, including attending at least one Open House with us at the venue. On the wedding weekend, she took the bulk of the decorations to the venue for us, set it all up, and did a great job of keeping us close to on schedule. She established an excellent rapport with our other vendors and the maid-of-honor. When the event was winding down, she took care of getting all our belongings collected to make it easy to pack up when we left. We have absolutely no reservations about recommending her services.
